57.5 Degrees of Pain
I was fortunate to watch possibly the best non-Australian team of all time in my first series, the 1976 West Indies. With the well placed Scottish school holidays and BBC coverage I would not have missed too much of the action despite the great weather outside.
You could argue that the 1980 touring team had better bowling, but 1976 had the finest batting, great weather and Michael Holding at his best.

I would have liked to have seen them in their absolute pomp.
I had forgotten Blackwell, so he comes in for Hildreth, thereby both strengthening and weakening at the same time! Fine player on his day in fairness.

Diogenes
When I was 11 Jonathan Cunningham, my new best friend at secondary school was a huge cricket fan. I was never that interested in it until we became friends, I lived for football. Together we would get 2 buses up to The Oval to watch Surrey.
I learnt how to score, watched some very dull County games, jogged around the perimeter of the ground with Monte Lynch, chatted to Pat Pocock and Roger Knight, memorised fielding positions. Indtead of dreading the summer holidays and the absence of football Iād look forward to listening to Test Match Special while watching it on the BBC with the sound down. I miss that.
When Jonathan was 13 he was knocked off his bike and killed while doing his paper round. I think of him every time I watch cricket. My love of the game is an extension of my love for my best friend.

Thread's moved on, but the 5000 Test/ODI runs and 100 wicket/catches was Kallis and Carl Hooper. Well done to whoever got it, it took me bloody ages trawling through cricinfo to get Hooper.
