He got 9 actually Nico. Aside from his legendary cut shot, I remember him acclimatising his eyes to the light by blinking furiously at the sky whenever he came out to bat.

Prior (like Stewart and Bairstow) suffers from batting low down the order as a wicket-keeper though. You clearly have less chance to get a century when you come in at no.6 or 7. The fact that they made the list at all shows that they were pretty good batsmen.

Agreed. It's the ideal spot for a momentum-changing 60-70, but you'd have to hope that one of the specialists would have done the bulk of the scoring.

To my mind, Gilchrist was the w/k who broke the mould for keepers. Up 'til then, with the possible exception of Dujon, I'd never noticed any of them offer anything other than 'just another member of the tail'. Or am I misremembering? My first keeper was Downton :-)

The Prior-Bairstow-Buttler comparison is worth having (as "recent" best wkt/bat)

So Bairstow (Mat - Inns - Runs - Ave - SR - 100 - 50 - 0)
70 - 123 - 4030 - 34.74 - 6 - 21 - 10

Buttler
43 - 77 - 2211 - 31.14 - 1 - 15 - 6

Foakes
5 - 10 - 332 - 41.50 - 1 - 1 - 0

G Jones
34 - 53 - 1172 - 23.91 - 1 - 6 - 2

Prior
79 - 123 - 4099 - 40.18 - 7 - 28 - 13

The Prior-Bairstow comparison is interesting and numbers suggest Buttler worse than both.

My theory about Foakes is that they can't play him due to having then:

Stokes
Foakes
Woakes

in the batting order
