Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I'd stick Pakistan in if I won the toss - better chance to win the game if the oppo know they need to post 400+ as a minimum, regardless of conditions etc.

Sudden death single wicket bowl-off.

Most of the obvious simple methods (number of sixes, say) have problems with numbers of games rained off, size of grounds, whether you batted second & won easily etc etc.

Agree Fetch, there must be a way to reward a big win whether by runs or wickets otherwise it skews things horribly.

The 'Fetch Cricket Thread' method - could be the 'Duckworth-Lewis' of NRR.... :-)

A lot of discussion yesterday on TMS around time it was obvious NZ were not going to try to win the match re NRR. Nobody apart from Statto guy seemed to understand it. It’s been good there haven’t been too many deadrubbers in a big tournament but something needs looking at. I liked the suggestion of a best out of three scissors, paper, stone :-)

Sudden death over pkaying 'matchsticks'.

(Anyone else do this at school etc - any disputed decisions, ie ALL LBW shouts, most run outs etc would be settled by playing next 3 deliveries matchsticks, which was with the bat held upside down so you only had the handle to play the ball)

TMS stat guy suggested Duckworth-Lewis.

6 and 4, for minus against (AKA goal difference could work).

NRR doesn't really work though if hammering a team batting second isn't the same as doing it when you bat first.

Can someone wiser than me set out the journey to Pakistan and NZs current NRRs. I know it sounds ludicrous on paper with the current position ref Pakistan, but the reason they are up the creek at this point is the result of 8 matches worth of NRR accumulation.

Did any of the individual results in those matches skew NRR in a way that looks "unfair"?

That’s the point I was trying to make, larkim. I’ll have a look at the data for the individual matches and see what it reveals.
