Guess the party line would say 14 days for you but it doesn't make any sense

Probably not that much comfort to you right now but I’m sure you are in the clear MM. Hope your mum is ok. Pretty obvious that she was infected in hospital.

Mandy Moo - my advice is that you assume initial swabs were not deep enough to pick up virus (it happens) and therefore you look at self-isolation for 14 days from 20th May to be on the safe side. That would take you to June 3rd.

I've wondered how accurate negative tests in symptomatic people are. For that very reason. Especially as community testers are (I think) volunteer hcps who don't take respiratory samples as part of their usual role. I wonder if anyone's monitoring this. I really think they ought to be.

bmj.com Does this help? tl;dr: if someone is likely to have COVID-19 based on symptoms and possible exposure, and has one negative test, there's still a three in four chance that they have COVID-19. Even after two negative tests, there's still a one in two chance that they have COVID-19. This is in the situation where pre-test probability is high. It does not apply to people who have no definite history of exposure and no symptoms. |

It does indeed help. It answers my specifoc question. I'll read it properly when I've stopped being geeky about spacemen. I knew some respiratory docs a few years ago and they were always sceptical about some negative swab tests, so I guessed it may be so.
