Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

If you're in England Shades, then it's not compulsory yet. Presumably it will all be 100% (or nearer!) in 10 days time! :-) G

I'm in England. Back in March when lockdown started there were far more folk down here (Devon) wearing masks. Don't know why that's changed, I haven't discussed it with anyone so not aware of any radical locals objecting.

I carry a mask in my bag but as yet have never worn it. I will wear it from the 24th. But having to do that will put me off shopping and I'll start to buy more online. They were saying on the news that mask wearing would make shoppers more comfortable to shop, for me it has the opposite effect.

I don't use public transport, I see folk waiting for the bus with masks but I noticed that none of the drivers wear them, that seems a bit odd.

Masks in shops for good or ill just makes me want to shop even less. The faff with queuing is bad enough, but masks will finally kill the high street. The only shops I've been in in the last 4 months are a small supermarket, a diy store and the local bike shop. Everything else bought online.

Here endeth the High Street and probably not before time.

Regarding bus drivers, at least on my local bus some do wear masks, but they say they have a protective shield round their cab area they don't need too

Cstar - I agree. For me seeing everyone wearing masks creates a hostile atmosphere.

Night owl - that makes sense if they have screens that they don't have to wear masks.

I am totally put off non-essential high-street shopping as well. Just how I feel. If otgers do too, not good news for bricks and mortar stores.

I have never liked high street shopping...
however, I think people are feeling averse to masks because we aren't used to them or used to seeing people in them, and in films, media etc being masked has been associated with bandits, robbers etc

once we all get used to them it won't be the problem some are making it out to be

I have been in three different shops today. I wore a mask in each as did about 70% of the other people in there. I had no difficulty chatting normally and social interactions were completely normal. The shops were doing a steady trade and it was all simply not an issue.

Shopping isn’t a problem ( masked ) we have a good High Street/indoor centre and fruit veg man on the pedestrian area - A few of the cafes have been allowed additional outdoor seating - hope to see more. As kids are not at school the street isn’t full of urchins at kicking out time. Just wish I was fit enough to have a decent crack at the shoplifters segment on Strava. Lockdown and post has made me appreciate our local High Street a lot more.

I travelled on the London tube and overground - disposable mask on the way out, bandanna on the way home. Yeah, they're bit warm, I'd rather not (bandanna feels better for me) and I'm glad to get rid once I hit fresh air, but hey wearing one is not the end of the world.
