Thanks Rosehip. That shows flu at virtually zero and Covid still much higher infections, hospitalisation and deaths than any other respiratory disease?

That's what the sources are saying, flu not started yet, Covid and RSV out there.

A while back I wrote to the Covid Inquiry about Vallance's erroneous claims, and just got a reply saying they had passed on my comments to the relevant people.
Whether that's the bin-stuffing people, or something more useful, remains to be seen.
I'm thinking of sending another letter concerning the evidence of Edmunds and Ferguson which seems to be designed to be misleading, while not actually containing the falsehoods of Vallance's statements. It seems likely that they know he's talking bollocks and don't want to say anything demonstrably untrue in support of him, while being happy to shelter under the cover he is providing. Neither of them admit to getting the doubling time wrong after 14 March, but neither of them directly claim to have got it right either, they just encourage that inference to be drawn.

I heard an interesting discussion on the radio this afternoon. Apparently there are currently 1 in 24 people with coronavirus. (The figures for this time last year was nearer 1 in 50.) There's a number of variations of Omicron doing the rounds at the moment and they've given up categorising them. They say that if people are testing for it, they are getting negatives because they are testing too soon, i.e. as soon as they start with symptoms. If tested the next day they seem to be getting full blown positives.

AR - I've also heard that using expired lft kits are more likely to give false negatives... (so could be linked)

I don't think the LFTs were really designed for something that evolves quite as quickly as covid does, so I'd be surprised if there wasn't a bit of a fall off in their accuracy. I've heard plenty say that you shouldn't just swab the nose either (throat and gums seem to be recommended).
Not sure if it was covid or not, but we seemed to prevent OH giving me whatever lurgy he had recently using a HEPA filter in the living room (only a little portable one, but now we have an IKEA STARKVIND - which is almost silent on the lowest setting) and sleeping separately. We'll probably do this in future because it should work reasonably well for anything (bacterial or viral).
I've heard good things about the Novavax cvaccine (fewer acute side effects than mRNA vaccines) and the upcoming nasal spray ones (more likely to produce sterilising immunity) so hopefully this will be the last Christmas on high alert.

Merry Christmas and Happy NewG(rrr)
I've had a "cold" for 8 weeks now. Could it be a CV19 variant? Possibly. Not sure if I'll ever know though. How different to one and two years ago? G

Christmas Day is well and truly f****d for our family as Covid has finally caught up with us.
Husband, daughter, son-in-law and grandson all have it. We think the source was grandson's school Christmas Fayre we all attended.
I'm ok for now so have been doorstep shopping for them, as they had planned being away for Christmas so had nothing in and no chance of getting a delivery slot! If I succumb we will just have to get by as no-one nearby I can ask to help. As you can imagine the F word is being used a lot here!
