From BBC People in England given a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine will no longer have to be monitored for 15 minutes after their booster jab, the BBC understands. Ministers are expected to agree to this soon. The observation period was introduced in the first week of the vaccine rollout, after two healthcare professionals were jabbed and suffered an allergic reaction. But some GPs have been urging ministers to review the requirement, saying it “substantially reduces the efficiency and throughput" of clinics. Under internal NHS targets seen by the BBC, 5.3 million people should be given a booster vaccination in England next week, rising to 7.6 million in the week starting 20 December. |

That’s interesting, Pix. I had mine last week and the people in the vaccination centre were very good at monitoring the flow of people when I was there. A staff member was able to tell me when my 15 minutes were up, although I had been checking.

DocM, that's an interesting possible corollary and possible cause - if professional sports people delay or decline vaccine due to possible interruptions to training, there may be an increase in reported illnesses due to Covid, not due to the vaccines *against* Covid?! CV19 booster jag and flu jag Saturday, no side effects. Ran one of longest (v slow) runs on Sunday, and just some paracetamol for slight throat soreness or glands(?). Up at 7.30 to take dog to vet this morning, so def not suffering from vaccines! Lucky me! ![]() |

I was told to sit and wait but no-one was really checking how long I was there for before I left. I was a bit annoyed with myself because I'd taken some chocolate as a post jab treat to eat while I waited and only remembered when I got there that I'd need to have a mask on and I had to wait til I got out of the building... (It didn't feel like the sort of situation where removing my mask to eat was really needed when I could just wait a few minutes). |

15 mins wait after Pfizer on Sat and it was monitored, though probably not enforced. The expression used was "are you OK to check your own time, waiting here for 15 mins", so I guess policing it by exception where someone looked doubtful. I have to say, the NHS and other staff doing the jags were flipping amazing. It was run like clockwork precision and friendly and informative and just everything brilliant. Thank you, thank you, thank you again to all you wonderful people in the health and caring services, for our health and well being during this unprecedented global pandemic. Stars. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Scorge - worth checking each morning in case a more local option opens up. Great to hear so many reports of boosters being booked and jabs in arms. |

I think it's unlikely that it's increased substantially, or at least due to the vaccines rather than covid itself. My dad was always keen to point out that A&E on a Sat was always full with footballers rather than those doing white water canoeing or rock climbing. He put it down to the footballers being much greater in numbers and also generally less fit (whereas those doing dangerous sports are more likely to stay within their abilities). I had heard of people having heart problems after flu, and we know covid can also cause myocarditis, so I suspect it's that they've got infected without realising (even if vaccinated) or there's some lasting damage that comes to light at a later date. |
