yes! I have talked the gynae consultant into a hysterectomy - no more contraception and no more periods - I am ecstatic
CL - the honest answer is it depends on who's doing it! All you should feel is a bit of local being injected - which is rather stingy - then nothing after that

Great news HellsBells, I'm jealous!! Thanks for the info on the implant, I cope with giving blood so hopefully I'll cope with the local being injected..!

I had the mirena years ago and it doesn't hurt getting put in (or getting taken out years later). It is a bit uncomfortable but only for a few seconds. I found I bled a tiny bit for the rest of that day (take a pad with you just in case) but then my periods were lighter than before but I did still get one each month.
Does anyone know of any non-hormonal options apart from the copper coil? Thanks girls. x

I've got the Mirena and it's wonderful. I never have a period any more, at all, and I used to have problems with too heavy and too frequent. 2 downsides: 1) I get more spots since I had it put in. 2) The insertion is painful. I was told it would be a bit uncomfortable, so was expecting no worse than a smear test. Now, I am a bit of a wimp when it comes to pain, but I passed out, despite the local anaesthetic. BUT, I would (and will) go through that again for the benefits - it has totally changed my life. And evidently other people have had better experiences than I did, so don't let me put you off!

Congratulations, HB! I was so tempted to ask for one earlier in the year but have settled on another lap and laser op and review again later....

CL - I had the Implanon yesterday, it didn't hurt and *nobody* is worse with pain than I am! No bruising and only a tiny tiny hole in my arm. And I compare this to the Norplant implant of twenty years ago (!) which was an altogether bigger deal and required an assisting nurse to hold me down!
