I would think depression was quite a good reasdon NOT to be on the pill
Particularly since in this day and age there are other options available

Thanks HB. I was a bit surprised because progestogen-only (cerazette) just turns my life into one long period so I was thinking that if anything I'd have a similar side effect with low oestrogen rather than total cessation.

As per FF's question re menopause - I've been told to come off the depo and to have bloods done after 3 months break to check if I'm pre-menopausal. If bloods are not accurate, do they need to keep being re-done as its gonna be a nightmare coming off the depo?

The pill worked well for me, for 14 years. But now they think there might be a link with the length of time I was on it with the all the fibroids I have now messing up this pregnancy. I also stopped having all the headaches when I stopped it too, hadn't seen that link before either

I am at least three weeks into what I would call a period (as opposed to spotting) and it seems to be getting heavier *sigh*

Hi, I can't recommend the Mirena coil highly enough. only needs changin once every 5 years, low dose hormone, so no systemic effects of hormone. Main side effects are cramping for a couple of weeks after it's fitted. Fitting is a little painful, but what's 1 mins discomfort in exchange for 5 years of side-effect free contraception? Also seriously reduces length and heaviness of periods (for some women hey stop completely). It's been a godsend for me.

im on the mirena, it's going to be 3 years now! i have a period (if you can call half a day of light bleeding a period) every 3 months, no cramps, no side effects and i'm not a crazy woman anymore.

I was on the pill and fell pregnant twice! breast feeding was a nightmare after the second child due to the pill, so i stopped asked for the coil and it was the best thing ever.
no more mood swings, no more headaches and I lost weight too!

I've had my last ever depo after two years trouble free living, and am about to have the Explanon 3 year implant. I really should have asked the GP this when we arranged the business, but how big a wound does it leave - how soon afterwards can I swim? (I have a Tri 10 days later) Also, any other thoughts on the Explanon welcomed...

I've got the Implanon and am having it removed and going back to depo but he has told me I can only have it for 2yrs as I had 13yrs last time before they told me I'd got to come off it!!! The depo just suits me better! (no periods with depo!)
I didn't have a big wound at all and I can't see why you wouldn't be able to swim pretty much straight away.

I've been having a few pill related issues recently so I went along to see my doctor this morning. As I have worked my way through most of the pill options she has suggested the implant. As I am a wimp, how much does it hurt having the implant put in..?
