Princess Purple Bubbles
not sure if this is the right thread but I'm niggled....
been on depo for years (loved it, like Jerboa no periods etc etc) Feb 2010 GP took me off depo had one period between feb and sept then from sept had 3 heavy periods in 6weeks (does not make for a happy princess!) had a dose of depo in Oct as couldn't handle the periods (seizures cyclic and well you can image the mess!) didnt have depo again since that and have realised that other than a heavy period in Dec I've now got to April and absolutely no sign of a period....is it worth visitn ght GP? I am 32 in May and well someday would like the option of kids...really don't know how GP would react if I went to see her to say I am not getting periods etc etc

Ps I AM DEFINATELY NOT PREGNANT!

Speaking of Mirena....
I am on #3 and have just had a letter from the GP surgery saying, " Yer 5 years are up, come in number 9 and have it changed".

I have written them a nice letter back saying, "I've had 3 of 'em, I don't like the side-effects I get when they're first put in, I'm nearly 45 and I am going to keep this one in for another 2 years and then see if any lower-dose IUS like FibroPlant has become available... I'm willing to take the (low) probability of getting pregnant..."

I haven't posted it yet though! I thought I would come here as people often have sensible things to say. "How not to annoy your GP" is always good...

I didn't say in the letter, "seriously, how likely is a 45 year old doing 40-50 miles a week and otherwise mainly (not entirely :) ) SLEEPING (with night sweats) to get knocked up?" but there is that too!
Even if it did happen, well me & t'other half have good jobs and are financially secure...

I can cope with the feeling of someone trying to shove a small umbrella up me very quickly while I retreat as fast as I can (not fast enough!) up the examining table, but the hormone-y stuff I don't fancy. You don't really realise it 'cos it's not anything really concrete but after 3 even the obtuse like me do kind of get an inkling and join up the dots.

Fido, have you thought about a copper coil? Might not be ideal if your periods are heavy but if it would suit you then one would probably see you through.

F2D, provided you are genuinely happy to take the risk of becoming pregnant (and pregnancy with a coil in does present a couple of dilemmas, and if you DO get pregnant and plan to have the baby then the coil should be taken out as soon as the two lines turn blue) I can't see that your GP will tell you that you can't do what you've suggested. Although I don't want to give any false reassurance, the 5-year limit is set to be safe for the most fertile women :)

If the hot flushes became troublesome and you wanted to use the Mirena coil as the progestogen component of HRT, you would have to have a new one put in. But by then you may be able to have a lower dose device :)

PPB, your GP is unlikely to want to investigate further at this stage, it can take up to 2 years for fertility to return to normal after Depo.

Thanks, I just wanted to check really that there wasn't anything I'd completely overlooked :)
Smackie - I do like having little or no bleeding so wouldn't put a copper one that high on my list but thx for the suggestion.

Getting cheesed of with my Depo now. Bleeds at 5 1/2 wks, 8 wks, 10wks, together with normal PMT symptoms. Getting night sweats every night, & spot break outs. I'm only approaching 35. Flushes & nights sweats have been on & off for over 2yrs. Surely am too young for menopause. Depo due this week. Any ideas re night sweats, flushing, etc, other than Rosecea, which is what i got told 1 1/2 yrs ago & no solutions provided?

Am not a doctor but if you are that certain the cause of your probs is the depo then stop using it. Srsly. There are other forms of contraception meanwhile this sounds like it is impacting all parts of your life. ( I am biased. I can't take hormonal contraception as it totally f**ks me up, so I do have sympathy)

What are the alternatives if you can't take a hormonal contraceptive anymore?
