1 degree of latitude is 111km, so a conquercise zone is 2.22km high. That calculation is true anywhere. 1 degree of longitude will depend on the cosine of the latitude, so a zone would be 69.47km * 0.02= 1.39km wide at Greenwich for example.

Sorry my bad. I need a delete button some days.
However if you want to try grab more zones for lesser miles one way is to find the junctions. It is theoretically possible to swing your arms around in a circle and grab four zones or run the 4m (I think) just inside the entire perimeter of one zone and only get that one zone.

I tried to optimise the collection efficiency. As Paul says, for 4 zones just stand at the junction but for more you need to cover some distance. I tried a 4x4 grid with the theory that if you run round the edge of a central 2x2 square (so using Cerrertonia's number that is about 9 miles) and just nibble inside and outside and wide corners then you bag a 4x4 area.
This run was just shy of 13 miles with a couple of good junctions but a couple not so good.

I never got round to doing similar.
Had a walk in Hay and along the Wye, the another on Cusop hill on the way home and then another, drawn by the moon, after Shiatsu this evening.
Sadly none of them generated an expansion of my lawn.
However: all where super!
