MrsFF has made a bread pudding this morning. As children neither of us tried Bread and Butter pudding, it looked horrible to us. Now we will try mostly anything. It smells delicious and we're looking forward to trying it.

We had bread and butter pud as kids. Stef and I love it. To me it’s the best way to eat hot cross buns

Whoops. There were still tubs of celebrations on sale cheap in our local coop this morning and we'd just about finished the tub we bought at the weekend...

Our local Co-op didn't have any interesting post-Christmas bargains Plenty of egg-shaped confectionery, though.

When I was young, my Mum used to make bread pudding to use up the old bread, it was delicious and I loved it. She put lots of raisins and sultanas in it, plus probably some other dried fruits, but I don't remember any butter except perhaps to grease the bottom of the oven tray (this was many years before non-stick trays).

Bread pudding is grim. Bread and butter pudding, made well, is awesome. Doubt any version would measure up to my mum's though :D

Both bread pudding and bread and butter pudding can be further improved by the addition of a little cinnamon and nutmeg (or use a panettone or hot cross buns). And by leaving out any orange or lemon peel in mixed fruit!

@Flatlander You usually butter the bread before putting it into the pudding.
