Very weird to cheat like that.

I can sort of understand someone just wanting to take part, using an illicit transfer or false number etc. But then to come in at the front....very odd.

Some organisers do and some don't. I've met runners who bought race entries on eBay. It does happen a lot although not with the elite runners.

The current Brighton Marathon photographers' portal has something which shows named faces of those around you...and yes, you occasionally get a well-built bearded guy with a woman's name.

Joasia Zakrzewski has been banned for a year following her DQ in an ultra event in April.

She admitted getting a lift having pulled out of the race but still took a trophy without thinking about it. The panel refused her claim that she was disorientated.

Jo Z is a fantastic athlete and lovely person. I am surprised that this happened but believe it would be a lapse at worst. That she has received a ban is very sad, but probably the right outcome. She is not arrogant, or entitled. And to suggest all ultra runners are is just stupid.

A post that is both arrogant and entitled. And sadly unsurprising.

I really struggle to understand cheating in a race. Especially if you go on to brag about your results. I recently did the Mount Cook half where the leading pack outed the guy who came third as it was an out and back course. The guy was sitting top ten as they got close to the turn and then was miraculously third after the turn and no one had seen him overtake. The guy was obviously good enough to be top ten, so what posses him to then try and cheat? Its so bloody rude. As that man from Purley would say, "it makes me so angry".

Sounds like the bus catcher at the Kielder half a number of years ago who finished 3rd. He'd won the 10k the day before.

Obviously a good runner.
