Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Baroness, thread is here fetcheveryone.com/forum__60303__1__first_finisher_at_cambridge_hm_is_not_the_winner

Looking at his powerof10, doesn't look like any general sanction was applied, and I presume his club were not bothered. thepowerof10.info

Is this all cheating?

If it is I get really pissed off when my pint glass is not full.

I don't know anyone who cheats but I am familiar with a runner who consistently lies about their finish times. They'll say they did a 1:50 half marathon and you check the official results and they did 2:10. Results are public record so I have never quite worked out what possesses them to do it. Do they honestly think they're fooling people (and where is the satisfaction for them in that) or are they actually deluded and believe they got a faster time than they did?

Sweetie - I've encountered that, too! It's so weird.

I was actually just listening to a podcast today about dishonesty. His point is that most people only end up doing this because the opportunity arises, not because they're inherently bad, and that it starts as something small that somehow balloons.

This is similar to another story about a runner I'd read about. He decided to try out EPO and didn't realise how well it worked until suddenly he won a race and they tested him and then he was banned and it sort of ruined his life because he couldn't race anymore.

I know there are a gazillion other threads about this, but I feel this way about Vaporflys. I'm completely happy with Kipchoge wearing them to test out the proof of concept of sub-2 as a stepping stone to achieving that. But as a fun runner, why would you wear springs in your shoes? You might as well attach motor to your bike for the sportive.

Sadly I've seen quite a bit of cheating during marathons I run.
The people in question conveniently never wear gps devices

In my Victor Book for Boys reading days a long time ago, I remember Alf Tupper, the "Tough of the Track" got suspicious about a runner beating him in races. It ended up being twins, and he reacted in the good old Alf Tupper way.
He twatted them both :-)

You know - I've never seen anything that could be called cheating in the running sphere I operate in. Perhaps it's because I've always tended to hang around the back of the pack.

I have seen people trying to get into pens that were not allocated to them at London.

I have a friend, who used to work as a printer, who told me that every year they'd get people asking him to make up illicit London marathon numbers so they could run the race
- but nothing I could label as trying to get an advantage during the race itself

@Sweetie I had a nephew who told me he'd run the London Marathon in 'about 4 hours'. He must've known that as a keen runner I'd look up his result, see how he got on. Result: something around 6 hours, IIRC. I've never asked him, but I'm also puzzled as to why you'd lie like that.
