I don't have a cat at the moment (I lost my gorgeous, 20 year old boy 3 years ago) because we have a cat-savaging dog here a lot but fully intend to become a mad cat lady once aforesaid dog pops his clogs.

We mostly just rolled our eyes, but my sister and I were kind enough to advise her that it might not be appropriate to address the cat, which was called Pixie, as My Darling Twat in the presence of strangers.
