Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

I don't like Anita Shreve much.

I'm going on to Find a Way, thanks to the lovely Bint.

Only ever read one Stephen King - It. Couldn't put it down! Don't know why I've never read any more though.

Don't think I've ever consciously read Stephen King. I used to read James Herbert when I was a teenager, because that's what teenage boys did in the 1970s.

Always preferred King to Herbert, King would go into weird existential territory at times (It), or nostalgia for bygone eras (Christine) - which made such books epicly long. Pet Semetary (sic) is like a modern day M R James or W W Jacobs (the Monkey's paw), very little happens in it, but there's a deep underlying dread, and it has a brilliant ending.

Stephen King is a brilliant writer, and also very good on writing.

I'm another who read James Herbert. Sven Hassell was another mainstay of the teenage boy.

I read a few Herberts but they're all pretty wafer thin characterisation-wise compared to King. Though they did always reach the necessary gross-out threshold.

Stephen King is a great writer and The Shining is one of the scariest books I have ever read!
