While we're on the subject of bike training are the principles for training similar to running? Like don't increase your weekly mileage by more than 10%, do long rides, shorter tempo stuff and hill work?

I don't think the 10% thing counts as much. Cycling isn't as hard on your legs as getting used to the pounding of running. There is a lot of value in long rides, tempo, hills etc though.

Time for a major namedrop. I was talking to Richard Hobson about this sort of stuff. He reckons that your 40k bike split shouldn't be any worse than double your 20k one...
