Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Am moving up to iron distance this year but am struggling with on the bike feeding. For half irons I normally drip feed every 15 min on Hi 5 energy bars cut into four bits.
I used this plan at the weekend on an 80 mile sportive but found it really boring and totally unappetising after a while.
I'm thinking of trying something more real like mini pork pies or other savoury treats
Has anyone out there tried this or some alternative, I'm not a fan of gels either.
Obviously I don't want to end up with a bout of the two bob bits once on the run (no pun intended)

I've used chicken tenders in the past on long rides.

I too struggle with gels and energy bars - I've found a tailwind goes a long way and isn't too sweet / hard on the stomach.

The caveat being I've only done up to half.

Hopefully TRO will be along shortly, he's the most experienced Iron distance racer here I know of.

Sam swears by Tailwind for his ultras - no cycling involved many lots hours on the go and zero digestive complications.

Dingley - its a case of whatever floats your boat and suits you, in my case I have eaten roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings on long rides, and I have used roast spuds during the IM bike leg (top tip - freeze them first so they're a bit easier to eat on the hoof). Other people swear by cheese and marmite sandwiches, pork pies, so nothing is daft really.

^^ I should say that freezing them makes them a bit more soft when defrosted, and not to eat them frozen :-o :-)

which race are you doing ?

Fraggle - many thanks for the advice, sounds like a full finger buffet could be in order.
I'm doing the UK Ultimate on 2nd June so I've got a few weeks yet to try a few things out. Funny thing is I have a some roast spuds in the freezer so will give them a go
