Does anyone else get stomach cramps after a pool swim ? I have noticed one almost after all my swims in the past month, i'm guessing its gas build up from the mixture of holding my breath and gulping copious amounts of pool water.

Can anyone recommend a remedy ?

Perhaps you're not breathing out enough SKR? You mention holding your breath and you shouldn't be holding it at any point - you breath out when your face is in the water and breath in when it's not.
I found the mantra 'bubble, bubble, breathe' really helped relax my breathing when I started swimming: so if you're breathing every 3rd stroke, on the first two strokes you are breathing out making "bubbles", "bubbles" and then turn on the 3rd stroke to "breathe" - I hope that makes sense!

Thanks Sweetie, our coach also uses the "bubble, bubble, breather" mantra.

most times when i'm "hold my breathe", its because when i turn my head to breathe my head is too low in the water and i gulp in a mouthful of water rather than air and then i try to hold my breathe for the next few strokes till its time to breathe again.

Sorry to hear that HB. Of course, when medics come up with some fancy words to describe an ailment you can never be quite sure they’re not swinging the lead. ;)

Not my own diagnosis Glenners - that of two separate professionals who's opinions I rate higher than my own. I haven't completely given up yet, but it's not very likely I'l be there. Which pissed me off mightily I find somewhat surprisingly.

That's a shame HB :-(

SKR, on the tri training course I was on last year until my elbow had an unfortunate meeting with a patch of concrete, we were told we should be creating a little pocket of air to take our breath in, but I'll be honest, I just find it better for me to turn my head rather more than the coach said I should. 'Stop looking at the sky' is something I've been told, well, I like sky. And breathing :-)
