WW - from my armchair watching of events involving bikes, but never having participated myself, do you not get a number to fit on the frame of the bike ?

Even without your additional layer of clothing, when you're in the tuck position any number on your front would not be visible anyway.

WW - you often get 2 numbers in your race pack so you can put one on your run vest and attach another to the back of an additional layer if you want to wear something extra on the bike.
Or you can invest in a tri belt, you just attach one number and can turn it round to the front for the run and to the back for the bike.
How long is your duathlon? If it's only a short one I probably wouldn't put on an extra layer for the bike, unless the weather is really awful.

I made a last-min tri belt from elastic and safety pins. It worked really well.

thanks all.

Sweetie - the event I do will only be short but it might take me a long time, particularly on the bike!! Actually, I'm deciding between a sprint and an Olympic distance on the day. I should probably do the sprint but the bike leg is so short that it hardly seems worth it. I've got a few weeks to decide....

I bet the vast majority of competitors won't change clothing unless the weather is particularly grim. Just wear your tri-suit :-)

us skinny, little, cold-fearing runners don't possess such things JDA. Not yet anyway!

My trisuit just looks like a pair of running shorts and a vest. No one will notice, WW. Enjoy it.

On the back of Gobi's advice a few pages back and now having tomorrow off work I'm going to have a go at riding to and from tomorrow's parkrun.
Thankfully it's only about 4 miles each way to parkrun but it'll be interesting to see how it feels combining the riding and running!
