I know. OH doesn't like them and I have a terrible habit of drinking the syrup, so best not.

glace cherries ruin an upside-down pudding - I use either syrup or butter and brown sugar depending which I can "spare" Been known to use raspberries instead of cherries and use a few (when I have a glut, see above!)

We only have demerara as I used up all the soft brown in the ginger biscuits, so I think I will use golden syrup. I do have rasps, though.

Oh you reminded me I have that book HB. My mum had a copy late 70s/early 80s and I think that was pretty much what my sister and I used to learn to cook. I was over the moon when I found the new edition a couple of years ago.
