Alice - the flour mix maybe able to be used as ‘normal’ SR flour - quite often the ones that call themselves GF SR/plain flour are a mix designed to be used as a straight replacement for the wheat versions. Also there might be recipe ideas/a link to ideas on the packet..

panad - I find that even the mixes that contain some xanthan gum don't make a straight swap with 'normal' flour though they do need less adding.

I’m still in that mad keen, just started a new hobby phase. Plus I’m a bloke and baking is a quicker way of getting food than gardening ;-)

Alice - pay mor attention to LMH than me - although i have used similar mixes in the past when making things that were going to be edible by GF friends I myself don’t use on a regular basis ;-)

Thanks LMH and panad.
I think I’m going to have to try it and see! I just didn’t want to waste the other ingredients if it wasn’t going to work. There are 3 recipes on the packet but 2 require chickpea flour which I also don’t have.
I’ll let you know how it goes!

Alice - worst case scenario is that whatever you bake will be a little drier or more crumbly, taste should be as good. If you bake something that has ground almonds or oats in as well as the gf flour this will be less noticeable. The banana based loaf cakes also make gf baking easier. Doves Farm have a good website with lots of recipes on.

panad - you are good to bake for your gf friends, most people panic and don't bother!
