I thought that was a pre-requisite for being on this thread! 🤣 This article takes a slightly unfair angle, but it's all in good spirit really: ordnancesurvey.co.uk

Highest number of deaths and MRT call outs in Scotland this year. Inevitable with more people using the hills or is it a problem? :-) G

The Blencathra trig point has gone missing (a couple of times). There's just a ring up there now I think to signify the rest of the trig point under the ground. grough.co.uk

I don't think it was ever a pillar as it's logged as buried block with ring. The ring was replaced in March 2019, had suffered some damage by July 2020 and severe damage by April 2023 with almost a quarter of it missing last time I was up there a few weeks back. Looks delibrate, do people collect bits of trigs??

You can see the various states of it on the link below:

I despair at this behaviour. Presumably people try to dig it out and end up breaking bits off it.

That makes more sense. I did wonder how somebody - even a brazen/criminal souvenir collector/vandal - had the opportunity and means to get a trig down.

But I'll echo Synge's despair.

Too many folk out there now with no respect for our natural places, my mate is just back from Glen Brittle & said the impact of humans around the Fairy Pool area is brutal.

I was in Skye late last year and it looks like a lot of work was being done to limit the impact on the area around the Fairy Pools

I’ve nae idea what you can do about it. But at what point does work to limit the amount of visitors totally change the area for the worse?
