Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I agree with Sharkie. We all interact and respond in different ways and even differently on different days. I would interpret your response as a way of connecting with what she was saying. Going over and over things is part of the rigidity of autism. I have in the past used ‘it’s just a lack of mental flexibility’ as a phrase to break my cycle of stewing/obsessing.

I agree with Sharkie and HP :)

Neuro divergent folkx apparently usually do the thing of sharing a similar experience to show we understand, it's just a weird allistic thing to interpret this as trying to 'one-up' them or steal their spotlight.

If that lady has an autistic daughter then clearly either she or the father are also autistic, so chances are she tries to connect with people exactly the same way, or is at least used to dealing with people who do.

And, you are special, and you do deserve to be seen, and heard, and recognised 🫂

It was a relief when my neighbour asked me if I was autistic (I still don't why she thought I was :-o ) and I cautiously confirmed I was (I felt she could be trusted, some people get quite "off" with me if they think I'm not "normal"). She responded by saying she was as well! I wasn't alone anymore! ;-)

That sort of illustrates jelly's experience - it was a connection, something in common.

I too overshare too readily and talk about myself (see my blogs! And this comment! :-p ) and then wonder whether I should have said what I said. I can't seem to help myself.

You folk are so helpful, thank you. I'm learning a lot from you that helps me to ask the questions of my child when we don't understand each other.

Jelly that's all normal, you show you cared in your way, its so hard isn't it.

My colleague has pointed out that I communicate with pictures I looked at her oddly, then scrolled through my WhatsApp and shes right, the majority of my conversations are pictures, photos or memes.

I think that’s why I can’t seem to do anything other than walking and running.

I have tried a bit of yoga, I think I’d like to do a bit of weight training but only because I’d like a more toned body but I don’t make time for anything else!

I have a really ‘odd’ relationship with money too! I don’t want to be paying out for classes or the gym.

I'm terrible with money, but it's probably not possible to say if that's the autism or a result of being raised by parents who were also terrible with money, and being made fun of by my mother for saving what little money I did get.
