Hi, I have been a member of the same gym since I moved here (over 10 years) I am getting increasingly frustrated with it but have found it hard to come up with a suitable alternative as mine has a pool and classes. There is an LA fitness but it closes early at weekends and that seems to be the case with the few others around.

In the summer I joined the university pool so don't use my gym pool much now which means I could change. As luck would have it a few new gyms have opened since I renewed my membership in May.

Fit4less - same hours as my gym but no pool, good range of classes and loads of spin classes £19.99
Anytime fitness - open 24 hours, couldn't find out the classes but have got a free pass so going to go soon and Check it out £29.99 again no pool
Pure gym - not open yet but the LA fitness is being converted, sadly it sounds like they are not keeping the pool but they are going to be open 24 hours and membership is £18.99

What concerns me about these places is the price ! If they are that cheap will they be rubbish and will they be really busy? When things break will they be fixed? Will they fill up the toilet roll (mine is always out of toilet roll) will the gym be clean will broken machines get fixed etc.

I'm a member of a (still fairly new) Puregym. Got my first year on a promotion as it was new for £10.99 pm. I use it well outside of peak hours which suits me and is handy with it being open 24 hours. Its not normally too busy although possibly/likely due to the times I use it.

There's no pool which is no issue for me but the range of equipment is good and its kept spotlessly clean. There are usually a few trainers around for assistance/guidance but as I've not used them I can't offer any view. On the whole I'm very happy with my membership and think its great value for money, no complaints. As it gets older this might change but so far, definitely, so good. If it does change then you can cancel at anytime, no contract.

Sounds good Andy, ours opens in April
I don't need the trainers etc as I know what I am doing! I looked at one of the open clubs and they have a good range of classes too

Forgot to mention the classes. I've not used them either (only use the standard weights & machines) but they seem to have a good range that look popular and they start from about 6:30am.

Save your dosh. Get out into the open air for walks or runs round the local park. They're all free.

I've never looked at your training log before hellen, I had to go see what 80-100 miles a week looks like. I'm amazed and impressed! How do you have time to do anything else?
