Gender critical Ultracat. It means recognising biological sex, female and male and rejecting society’s imposed gender based, stereotypical roles. Many/most GCs do not have a gender identity and reject the term ‘cis’ which is being forced upon them. They want to retain sex base rights such as rape centres for women only, women's prisons not to house men (who identify as women - this is already happening), for women’s sport to be protected. Some trans rights activists do not want women to retain these rights and also do not even want anyone to discuss the GC point of view.

You may read that the GC movement is conservative and right wing. This isn’t the case, many GC activists are disillusioned Labour supporters and long term left wing campaigners. Some were part of the Gay Liberation Front in the early 80s.

Can I suggest you have a look at Sex Matters sex-matters.org
Fairplay for Women fairplayforwomen.com

and read JK Rowling’s essay, said by some to be transphobic, she received rape and death threats for publishing it (there’s a website documenting these). jkrowling.com

Cross posted there, answering the question, it’s slow typing on an IPad.

Hmm, I think it’s good for a broad range of people to see the conversation being had so they’re aware of it. The more people that get to read both sides of the debate the better, in my opinion. They wouldn’t necessarily seek out to read a ‘gender critical’ thread because the term isn’t widely known or understood.

I really don't think either the confession or this discussion is in the spirit of the idea. Its made me very sad that something that Brought so much joy yesterday is causing distress to several fetches today.

If you want to debate then please separate it from this. Or even better take if to places on the Internet where it is welcome. Fetch has always been a welcoming place, somewhere safe, (I'm gay and butch not trans) and the more this goes on the more and more I and other fetches feel. :-(

"Gender critical or reality based..."

Really?? That's pretty offensive.

I wonder how a "feminism and women's rights" thread would actually do. A similar thread and the women on it have very recently been hounded off a left wing talk board elsewhere.

It wasn't my confession either as I don't use the word "TERF" as I think it is now a slur used to silence women who have reasonable concerns about their rights being eroded.

I know this was supposed to be a bit of fun, and much of it was funny, but it was also interesting to see what people said when given anonymity. I was shocked by the ones admitting to gaslighting their partners in order to enter running races!

I agree with 1step. It's made me sad and uncomfortable. I know we can't always agree or get on and I know that debate is healthy but this issue just seems to always be so emotive and personal and I see no room for compromise.

It started quite fun, but anonymity is a double edged knife :(

I will acknowledge anyone's right to hold a view but not to discuss that view anywhere they please.
There are some views, mostly on the extreme of any topic, that shouldn't be heard and there are some places where even more nuanced discussion isn't appropriate.

I vote we don't do this again.

I appreciate people are uncomfortable with the points raised but feel that's it unfair for only one side to be heard from which is why I responded.

StuH that's a reference to Hadley Freeman's article from about 10 days ago in the Sunday Times.

About This Thread

If you've not seen it yet, today's calendar challenge is about confessions. You don't have to enter the calendar to play along (but hey, there's a pair of trainers AND a pair of headphones behind today's door, so why not?). Anyway, here's the link:

fetcheveryone.com/christmas-fess.php

I thought it might be useful to have a thread to discuss the confessions :-)
