Carluccio's also do a storming hot chocolate, which I've attempted to emulate at home and almost got there with. Tried to get some local chocolate producers on board with developing something similar when I had the shop, but they were all pretty disinterested despite the guaranteed revenue. Anyway, the theory is - dark chocolate ganache type base topped with steamed milk, which you then stir together. Quite a traditional idea but very simple and it looks lovely in a glass cup. The sweetness of the hot milk balances out the bitter dark chocolate beautifully, so you don't feel like you're getting sickly sweet warm chocolate shake.. I've been trying the whole bean instant sachets at work this week (not millicana or Nescafe, Douwe, I think). Pretty meh tbh but a step up from Nescafe granules. |

I discovered today that café crème doesn't mean the same thing in all cafés when I was given one with milk in I drank it anyway. |

I had a really, really good coffee at Spicer + Cole in Bristol, near Welsh Back,on the river in the centre. [Did I mention it was really, really good?] It had a nice design in the milk froth too and I was accompanied by Fetchie pals. |

That's magnificent, Hanneke We've had a mixed bag of coffee experiences in France. The coffee that's served with breakfast and after dinner in the hotel is minging. The instant that's on tap until 5.30pm is adequately palatable. And when we've been out, we've had a particularly good espresso in Notre Dame de Briancon, and otherwise a selection of good-but-not-Italian long blacks. |

Anyone able to recommend a coffee machine for the house. Thinking about investing but don't want to make a mistake.

I don't have one Al - I use a pot on the hob.
