Oh, good thinking Eddie, I will have that first one then and it will be tax deductable Joking aside again, in order to make a good coffee from a coffee machine, it needs to be able to put out a decent pressure of water and needs to have a temperature regulator. These used to be manual, and that is how I like them, good control over the quality of ones cuppa. That is also very expensive but I find a cheaper machine doesn't give the increase in quality of the coffee over my cheap as chips failsafe dead easy stove top method |

I have a bottom of the range DeLonghi, which I love. It's the second one I've had cos the first one got worn out (heavy usage for 3+ years, but this one seems to be going strong). I use it for lattes and couldn't comment on the quality of the espresso bit cos I don't drink neat espresso, but the lattes are yum (I go for the large, bowl-like mugs, not the silly little glasses with the layers). I think there is a skill to getting the best out of it though. I'm not quite sure what the skill is, but I have it and Mr RB doesn't

I think my friend's got the second one you linked to Hann. She makes good coffee.

Much as I admire the shiny coffee gadgets that make a soopah-doopah crema for the connoisseur, my palate isn't anywhere close to being dainty enough to justify spending the cost of a small car on coffee-making apparatus.

Reading back this thread - I really am a coffee peasant. I can drink instant fairly happily and although I make more filter coffee now (which I suppose still marks me as peasant ) there have been long times where the filter machine or cafetiere (or percolator or Cona) were barely used. I can also drink it with or without sugar (prefer with) and with or without milk (first cup of the day always has to have no milk). And as for stovetop makers - I naively though they were the little pots that sat on the hob (only had one in an apartment in Spain) but reading that Coffee Italia site I see that they are £100 quid of electric fancy stuff. |
