HappyG, you're in Scotland, aren't you? My Edinburgh friend gave me some Valvona and Crolla Napoletano coffee beans (in a big vacuum-packed kilo bag) and some caffe-bar blend ground coffee for my birthday after her last trip up north. Bioth are lovely, though I preferred the Napoletano for taste. I expect they are expensive, though. I divided the big bag of coffee beans into approx 200g quantities and kept them in the freezer until needed.
Nero is the only chain I ever use. Costa coffee is like dishwater. I imagine :-)

Of the chains, Nero is definitely the best, but I always try to go to an independent when I can. Better coffee :)

Anyone else getting fedup with the Costa Coffee invasion? Although not as bad as Starbucks, they certainly are a bit limiting... I do like their giant custard creams though :)

Round an industrial estate at work, very limited choice and no independents. Costa is our in house franchise. I quite like it, but then I did confess to being a coffee gourmand but not a gourmet.

Jen, good suggestion, Valvona and Crolla is always nice to visit in any case.

Are co-op own brand ground coffee just terrible then? Or is it just different degrees of niceness? That twoday link Red Squirrel is bril. But it's roughly double the price at £2.50 per 100g (£2.50 - £3 per 227g bag for most supermarket brands)? :-)G

Had a milky Costa americano a good few hours before the Meadows 2 Mile race a couple of weeks ago and almost saw it again at the half way point...( in fairness this was possibly more to do with my ailing levels of fitness than the quality of the brew ..! )

I know not of Co-op coffee but I did have a good feeling about some beans I saw there recently. However, I had 3 packs of other at home, so I didn't make a purchase.

I know it sounds a bit strange, but I'm usually proved right with my 'feelings' about new products, especially wine. I suppose it's also down to a good deal of reasoning.

I still like to choose wine in supermarkets according to whether I like the name and/or the label. I like living on the edge crab

Yeah but it works doesn't it crabster? I'm fussy about wine and the label/name combo thing works I reckon.
