Have to say the information in the emails is confusing. It's a lot of stages to be able to take a small group of consenting adults on a 6k jog twice a week! I think this might be the last time I do it.

I had a few minutes at the end of my course mentioning just that. I coach adults only and have done for the best part of 10 years and there are lots of coaches in that position, and you might need to think about that. It turned out 4 or 5 others were in the same boat and though the course was aimed almost entirely at coaches of children.

Watch out for the break out rooms!

Done both the online safeguarding and the first aid course, neither are too onerous, but yes quite a bit doesn't always seem relevant

UKA always seems to focus on coaches of kids and doesn't seem to understand that most coaches are working with adults.

Agree completely - we had a couple of us express exactly that at the end. The course leaders said we were not the first - although pointed out we might still witness safeguarding issues. It's certainly put me off encouraging Leaflet to do his LiRF. The club is really struggling to recruit volunteers to coach and lead and I really don't think this helps.

It's the same when you go on the full courses as well. Athletics Coach is really focused on young adults and even the next courses are really aimed at elite athlete coaching and not general stuff that most people do. Maybe the other pathway is better for that?

I found my CiRF course pretty good at the time, but an awful lot of the runners in both groups I work with now are happy just running easy and enjoying themselves - many never race and aren't bothered about improving times.

Yes. I found CiRF to be very good indeed, I got the impression these tweaking the safe guarding stuff are now a result of the problems that have occurred in Swimming and Gymnastics coaching as regarding bullying and UKA are trying to show that sort of stuff won't happen in our sport.

I think that's probably fair, and I'm all in favour when children & young people are involved. I do think a 'one size fits all' is probably not ideal, and I do think it may put people off volunteering.

The drive to enhance the EA/UKA welfare policies are in light of the Whyte report (see first list below) along with several well documented welfare issues that made the nation press (see seond link below).

Welfare of athletes, assistants, coaches, leaders etc. needs to be ingrainged into the life blood of the organisation and all those involved in coaching.

I strongly recommend you take the time to read the Whyte report.
