I wouldn't do a hill session as such with a C25k group, with mine we have to tackle a hill on the way out if town in almost every direction - I encourage them to ease up on pace, think about good form cues (heads up, arms driving back etc) and to take a walk break if needed.

We do fun hills later on - hopping, skipping, running backwards that kind of thing - but only after they've comfortably got to 5k and beyond. Enjoy - I love coaching beginners :)

well we had 15 ish people come along for last wks 0k to 5k...about 15 more people than i thought i'd have. its a rather small catchment area in my village and finding it tricky to balance getting the word out and not spamming/annoying my new neighbors (only moved here in march and i started the running club in...march :)). Seemed to go well and naturally split into 2 groups which mks it easier to adapt the plan going fwds. so....in an attempt to pre-empt drop outs..when did u find (if u did) the drop off happened in ur beginner groups? I found people got bored/disheartened on previous courses when the running part takes a jump up in the middle. though they were in surburbia..this time round i have llamas , sheep and cows to distract people.

That's right, week 4 or 5 when the novelty wears off and the running bits get a bit longer, you could always tweak that and delay the jump up....or make it 12 weeks!

Erm - all the way through potentially - sometimes life just gets in the way for people. You may need to allow one group to take longer - we have often ended up with a group that spend a week and a half on each stage rather than one for example.

Had such a great training session yesterday evening.

With the Juniors we did an 800 metre time trial then javelin.

One of the girls was so excited to be doing the javelin! She then told me that following a previous javelin session she had purchased a turbo javelin to practise in her own time.

Really made the time spent so worthwhile.

It felt really good, AL.

After years of being a glorified child minding service, to have the athlete embrace the opportunity was amazing.

Day 3 of 4 complete on the journey to become an Athletics Coach.

Hopefully get a date in the New Year for Day 4 to be assessed?

Some good stuff in the most recent EA coaching newsletter. Including a list of legal shoes by discipline which is helpful knowledge to have to advise athletes with. Something I've been getting asked a bit. Although I need pictures as well I think to tell the shoes apart. Don't envy the people who have to enforce this stuff.

European Endurance Conf looks interesting but no streaming so those of us who live miles away and/or work full time can't go. Don't know what people lose by recording sessions and making available post event at the least, especially in the new world where remote stuff is really common.
