I've used Julian once. It's simply down to me moving area's and financial constraints that I haven't gone back, he was very helpful.

Karen is in my club - she seems very nice (but firm too), she leads some of the group sessions. No idea what she is like one on one, but she certainly knows her stuff. I work with my coach remotely, he sets the plan and I run to the plan as much as possible and he adjusts as we go along if necessary. Say when I get fitter or set new goals and races or if I am sick. It works for me as I am too busy to fit one on one sessions in anyway and it keeps the costs affordable. I'd say the key things to make the relationship work are: respect of the coaches knowledge - you have to believe in the way they do things even when times are bad or you wont improve sense of humour on both sides, i.e. knowing when you can take the piss and when you cant they need to spend time to understand what you want, any good coach will do this as it will tailor what training you do, but they my well also need to help you shape your goals too you need to be committed to doing the training Good luck finding someone. |

Good coaches are hard to come by...lord knows when I started running I wanted/needed coach advice and support but this was sadly lacking. As a result I educated myself via the UKA/EA Coach Education Programme, research on web/books and, taking advice from fellow runners coaches. I ended up being Level II qualified, am currently one of ten coaches on the UK Sport 'Strive' programme, and am part of the Yorks/Humber Area Endurance Mentor/Mentees programme. |
