I borrowed the boy's scuba-style goggles. That solved my headache problem but nearly drowned me! I didn't realise how much I breathed through my nose until I couldn't.

I need to find a compromise: nice big, ideally one piece eye-bits but not over the nose :)

But that's the first session of the official plan ticked off.

I've also just heard there is an Olympic distance triathlon to be held just 15km from where I live on the weekend I'd planned to do the 5km so there might be some reshuffling

TaDAH! Hoping this solves my problems: big, single piece round the eyes, so hopefully no eye-socket pressure; and no nose covering:

Goggles doing the business. A bit leaky but nothing I can't handle and no throbbing pain!
Continuous 2.5km in the bank in 46.40 with some pretty even splits (one fast where lane partner decided to speed up as I overtook him. Just why, boys?)

Oooh, Garmin says SWOLF 1 pt better than last week and ave pace 1sec per length better (4sec per 100m). Can't argue with progress 😃. If I can hold that pace.for 5km I will be thrilled.

What's up, folks? Very quiet round here!

I did my longest swim yet - 3.8km. Pace was slow and swolf was high. I could prob have finished the 5km but I want to do it when I am prepped and in form (= had a good breakfast!)

I think I will cheat on the plan and finish a bit earlier - maybe in 2 weeks.

I have my ironman on the 25th
My lake says it's 750m round but Garmin never agrees
So I am aiming for 5 laps on Wednesday which is a smidge under distance (3.75km vs 3.8km)
6 is too short for 5k and 7 is over 5k!
Think I will save the 5K for August

I did an OWS that was somewhere between 3500 and 5000m this weekend (that's the range of distances my group recorded for the same swim). I suspect it was about 4k, but with some tough sea conditions so starting to feel confident about 5k in August

If you can swim 4k Hobie you can definitely do 5 :-)

Solid OW swim last night, forgot to take my Garmin (again!) but 4 laps would have been around 2.7km. Although I can't be certain of the time, I suspect it was quicker than the last couple of OW sessions, I just felt more relaxed and smoother in the water.

More or less on track for 5k in August.

About This Thread

Thread for advice and encouragement for a 5km swim challenge, inspired by the OSW couch 2 5k swim programme: outdoorswimmingsociety.com

You don't have to do it open water and you don't have to do it by any particular date.

It's a challenge, not a race.

BTW, there is a 5k, swim badge. Just saying.
