I'm thinking about the 5k swim challenge programme and wondering about making a "race/event" for it on fetch. But is there one already?
The pool training starts in May but I will need to take a week of at the end of May (marathon week). It would be nice to have a few of us all aiming to take the 5k roughly the same time - although mine will of course be in a pool. I know there are loads of you who can already swim 5k but I suspect there are others like me who have got out of the swim training habit and need a little motivation and others who have not done OW before (though that is not an option for me). It's also good cross-training with running or cycling and good for the injured amongst us who need something no-impact.
It's not a race - the aim would be to swim 5km without stopping in our own sweet time.

Aug/sep for the 5k or to start?
My slight problem in August is I hope to go to Greenland but I have no idea if or when. There is a pool in Nuuk but it is not great for training and unlikely I could do 5km in it.
And I'm not open-water swimming in Greenland!!!

Yes, as EP says, August / September for actually doing the 5k.
Pools in Wales don't open until May, so I think I'd struggle to build up to 5k any earlier than August.
