Oxford Self-Transcendence Summer Races. The name is longer than the race!
Tonight was the first in a series of three Grand Prix events. And I got a PB! But as Iā€™ve never run a two mile race before it was inevitable! It felt like it was over before it started but was quite fun.
The next is a three mile, then a four mile. The final event is another three mile which is not part of the Grand Prix, but is when the series prize giving will be made.

Well done Red it is sometimes really nice to do something different, the series sounds good. Good luck and keep getting PBs!

Had a weekend at the boat with my cousin and her kids so did a small run on Sunday while they all chilled out. Walked their legs off yesterday theyā€™re not the most active of family but as we know well we may not enjoy it at the time but they did when they finished that may have been the ice cream.

Less than 2 weeks before Windermere and I must must must focus on diet and get myself back on track Iā€™ve let the good work with Helen slip slightly. Life is just so busy. Looking forward to a rest after this one but may be thinking of doing an ultra in October! Sure after a rest I could manage it.

Surrey Phil
Good to catch up on everyone and it's encouraging to read some positive reports.

I've not run since Brighton having picked up a virus. I thought it was a chest infection from my coughing and phlegm colour but my chest and everything else is as it should be. I'd like to get out for a run of sorts next weekend and the Sutton 10k is still on. I'd like to enjoy that race although those around me won't want to hear someone coughing persistently for the duration.

Thatā€™s unfortunate Phil. I hope that youā€™re feeling up to the 10k next weekend.
To put a positive spin on your problem, you might inspire some of your fellow runners to a PB trying to get well away from your coughing šŸ™‚

Hope the preparations go well GG!
Well done ER - a very different medal!
Hope you feel better soon SP

Running still feels hard and tiring and my times are slowing! Iā€™m booked in for a blood test next week for my iron levels. The GP I spoke to today gave me more info on my past iron levels - theyā€™ve been ā€œnormalā€ since I finished my course of iron tablets about a year ago but she still felt they were a little on the low side of the levels she would prefer (all I got from the other docs were that they were fine). Weā€™ll see what they are next week then...
Hopefully the results will explain things and lead to a fix :-)

I thought this thread had gone to sleep. I was about to break the silence!

I was just getting a bit nearer my previous pace again after returning from injury, when I had a bad intervals session yesterday because of a slight stomach upset which made me feel rather weak. Disappointing, but not surprising.

PenW, I hope you get your iron levels sorted out. My wife had a similar problem but that was caused because she had a life history of heavy loss of blood; she had surgery eventually!

GG, I hope you have a good run at Windermere next W.E.

A bit off a crap run today with a lot of walking. A lot of crap going around in my head today but it was still good to get out in the sun.

If I worked it out right this should have been my view for the 250-mile mark.

Thatā€™s a lovely view Dave.O to help clear your head. Iā€™m very grateful to live where I do just a few hundred metres or so from the countryside.
From my perspective I donā€™t know whether I would have ever started running if I lived ā€œinā€ a city.

Pen, letā€™s hope that your GP can diagnose your problem.

Ev, I hope that your stomach upset resolves soon. Itā€™s good that youā€™re over your injury.

About This Thread

*EDIT* in the current situation we are not entering races but I think we can still log any plans we may have over the coming months, whether it is learning a new skill, ticking jobs off a list, moving house(!), doing alternative exercise, aiming for training hours instead of miles, writing to family & friends, finding inventive ways to be together virtually or even entering virus races please fill in the planner and Iā€™ll update this thread and keep our little social group going to share our goals.

Everyone is welcome, whether you don't want to set an official target or you may be aiming further but still want to pop by for a chat/offer some words of wisdom or just because the door is always open and kettle is on.

If you update the race planner after I've updated the header drop me an fmail or a reminder (or 2) on the thread so I know to update. Thanks
