Good morning folks – my apologies for the delay with this month’s round up.
I forgot that my Macbook wouldn’t handle Excel well so I had to wait until this morning for the roundup. I refuse to sully it with Microsoft products!!

Continuing from last year’s round-up, I’ll share some of our favourite Canadian snacks

Nanaimo bars – these goodies are similar in appearance to Millionaire’s shortbread, only the crust is a cocoa/chocolate and crushed graham cracker base with dessicated coconut, and the caramel layer is a vanilla custard layer, topped with chocolate.

Tim Hortons doughnuts – much better than the Krispy Kreme variety (they just aren’t the same). There are some similar flavours (Boston Cream – custard filled doughnut with chocolate topping) while there are others that are uniquely Canadian – Maple Frosted ring doughnut.

Montreal bagels – there’s been a debate about which is better – Montreal bagels or New York style bagels! Montreal bagels are not quite as perfectly round as New York bagels, and are smaller and denser and have a larger hole than the more bready New York bagels.

Smoked Meat – very similar to Pastrami and is usually served in sandwiches of rye bread with mustard and a dill pickle. Unlike the rather mean pastrami sandwiches I’ve seen in the UK, the meat can be up to 1-1/2 to 2 inches thick – a case of “do you like a little bread with your meat?!”

A cheeky progressive 10-miler for me as well today. And a real ah-ha moment with regard to running efficiency. It's only taken 12 years for the penny to drop ;-)

Thanks Garfield. I really fancy one of those smoked meat/pastrami sandwiches for lunch!
