slimboy
Belated moan about my marathon 2 weeks ago . Aberfeldy in Perthshire low key event organised very well by the local Rotary Club - involves 2 laps between Aberfeldy and Kenmore . Lovely countryside - would recommend it . The moaning is about my running not the race - gorgeous sunny day - as we often get in Scotland ! Wore my Newton ( quite ) lightweight shoes which had served me well in a recent 5k ( final race in the East lothian Summer Series where a won in my age category by one point ) . First 8 miles went well then my legs started to hurt and my pace nose dived . Got to 20 miles and a older guy said " your running well " . That gave me the kick up the ass I needed as I knew I wasnt so picked up the pace a bit telling my aching legs to man up . That worked till 24 miles when I had a bad fall ended up in a heap in the road. Two kinds girls stopped to help . I told them just to go on that I would be fine to which one replied no I had to move as I was at the mercy of the traffic on the open road - fair point ! So got up ( overtaking the girls that had helped me - felt a bit guilty about that ) to finish in 4:11

WW: It sounds grander than it is. I had a back problem a while back which led to sciatica and very little running for most of last year. The Phys gave me some exercises I had to do to manage the problem. I do about 20 minutes of stuff to stengthen my lower back, buttocks and hammies, then about 15 minutes of stretching to maintain the range of movement. If I do it less that twice a week I can feel the sciatica creeping up on me and I don't want to go back there! I randomly add in some core work and press-ups and chin-ups etc to keep things interesting but it's not really very structured beyond the basic stuff from the Phys. Knocked out just under 6 miles last night as 10 x 400m plus warm up/down. I'd forgotten how much I hate that session, and how glad I'd be that I'd done it. |

I find myself up at a little later than jono'clock. Sounds a bit of a battle marathon you had there slimboy. I'd still be more than pleased with 4:11. Sciatica sounds nasty Neller's no wonder you do the strength stuff. Enjoy Thursday and the pizzas. |

Still under the duvet. We are going to Falkirk to see the Kelpies and run, then Edinburgh to see the Fizzywobbles bridge and to meet up with Santababy

MrsJ- the canal lock wheel thing in Camelon is more interesting than the kelpies The parkrun has a nice climb in it. I grew up there Very on target for this year again after a solid month in August and September pretty much nailed. |

Thanks for the recommendations WW, don't think I am tempted with anything black puddingish though, I would rather eat fish
