What a stunning day! Wrapped up warm and took it slowly on the icy paths then came home and took down the second Christmas tree (of three).

Well done Steve for todays 5k. The sun is shining here too.
The car has been serviced and passed the MoT first time!
We are intending to do the local Bartley Park parkrun tomorrow, unless it is
cancelled.
I was looking through my 2019 diary and was amazed to find that four of last year's parkruns were quicker. My WAVAS in 2019 must have been sub standard. I was doing more Hampshire Road races that year, so I probably used parkruns as recovery runs, whereas nowadays, they are my source of speed work, except for interval and hill reps sessions.

Great news on the car passing hs, always a worry.
Hope the ice eases for parkruns.
I met a friend today and we had a run along the seafront, only 1m out and back before braving a paddle in the sea (tide so far out) and a sauna on the beach. Bliss.
Sorry the cold keeps on giving Loo, my cough seems to be easing but my chest sounds tight and talking feels laboured.
Take the wins while they’re there Steve & Peter
Three Xmas trees MrsB you’re keen!

I love Christmas! Although I regret my enthusiasm when I have to pack it all away -hence one tree a day!
The beach looks awesome!

Hey all,
Happy New Year!
It’s great to see everyone clocking up the mileage so soon in the year.
I had a few days off over NY, and returned to the running track today at 5am (see weather below!) for my first run of the year.
Unfortunately, I have pulled up a bit sore in the arch (the base of the arch just before the heel) of my right foot. I felt a bit of mild paid and discomfort during the run so I pushed through but it is still sore after the run which is frustrating as I have a race next weekend.
Otherwise, I was very happy with the run (half marathon with hill repeats in the middle) where I shaved off 9 seconds per km from my previous attempt in late December.
Not sure what to do now. I may rest up and go into the run as fresh as possible (but with slightly less mileage than planned) and hope I somehow get through. I had planned to do another run Monday and Thursday but this may need to be shelved.
No ice here! It is a scorcher (37 degrees today, 38 tomorrow). I will be inside with aircon today hoping that our battling line up somehow manage not to fold to Bumrah and the rest of the Indian bowling line up.
Apologies for the lengthy post; I somehow got on a roll.
Cheers

Brrr to that paddle gg! You north eastern folk are hardier than I am. Good that the car is ok hs. Dunno about your term "sub standard" in relation to your runs in 2019! Maybe " not as good as today" would be better, I hardly think sub standard is a description of your great running. We love Christmas too Mrsb, our single tree comes down on 12th night, tomorrow. It's a real tree which has brought a lot of joy since late November. Another frosty minus 2c dawn but pavements were ok. 3.3 miles felt more pleasant than yesterday but thank goodness it's going to be warmer tomorrow.

Ouch to your sore arch Jack. It's not pf developing I hope. A good training run you had and given the iffy arch a reduced mileage sounds a sensible plan for the week. Professional athletes wouldn't take risks so close to a race. Phew to 37c...a distant and rare memory here for such temperatures!

You’re doing amazing this month Steve still in 2nd place! Long may it continue for you.
One tree a day seems a good way to do it, my friend said she takes things down over a few days as it’s too much to lose it at once.
We also have a real tree they are special and we had a fab one this year. I love the house being decorated but I am always ready for normality to return.
The beach sauna is truly amazing. Worth the drive and time out.
I think resting and rehabilitating the foot is a good idea Jack and I wish you luck for your race, that was a good improvement on your run.
Jealous of the sun it’s very frosty out today, I’ll run a bit later I think.

Thought I might not make it to parkrun as my car was frozen closed! Got there, but forgot to press start on my watch.

GG, thanks. Todays parkrun was a bit icy, see below.
A nice picture of you and your friend.
I hope that you enjoy your run later today, if you decide to do one.
MrsB, how frustrating, thawing out your frozen car to enable you to get to your parkrun, and then forgetting to start your watch.
JackFW, I'm sorry to hear about the sore in the arch of your right foot. I suggest that you take it easy before your race, and have a couple of rest days. It's below zero here in Hampshire UK, and forecast snow after 6pm.
Steve, I may not have worded my comparisons with 1979 parkruns very well. What I meant was that the 1979 parkruns were recovery pace runs between HRRL races, whereas I treat parkruns nowadays as races, but don't tell anyone 😁
Well done for this mornings 3.3 miles on pavements.
We were rather concerned as to whether or not our local parkrun would be cancelled, as it was below freezing and very frosty. Thankfully, it was allowed to proceed, with a warning ⚠️ by the RD to be cautious of the melting ice in the puddles, and the frosty trails. Some small areas, which were still frozen were cordoned off, and we were warned to slow down and walk round the u turns. There were130 runners, and I came 78th, 1st AG 75-80 of 1 and 68.18% WAVA.
