Steve, I believe that all park runs are accurately measured, and I know my local one was accurately measured with a wheel by a qualified measurer that I know, and have raced against over many years. It is 2 laps and has a tight u turn round 2 bollards 4 times. There are also many twists and turns. Its never registered the same distance on Garmin and strava each time I've run it.
The. 23 is probably because I have my garmin recording distance in k's. Well done for this mornings early 5k.
I was going to run this morning, but as yesterday was a longish run and tomorrow will probably be 10 miles or further, decided to have a rest day.

My local parkrun the distance varies depending which line you are forced to take with the masses & I’m not really a fan of parkrun, I don’t like crowds. I was heavily involved in my local one when it was set up but some participants made it hard work and even though those who caused the ruckus moved on I just lost interest. And I find I can be out do a 10k and be back before it’s started so I rarely go. I do enjoy it when I’m there so maybe I should get back to it.
Well done on your run hs, and why I don’t run in km’s 🤣 good luck with your race and horseshoe collection.
Rest day here today too packing up the boat this weekend then next trip will be to winterise her. We’ll get Ellie out for a walk and a paddle though.

GG, continuing the discussion on parkruns: during the covid lockdowns, 3 of us ran 80 consecutive Saturday virtual 5k's. When restrictions were lifted, we, at first, said what was the point of returning to parkruns when we could continue in the forest, close to home. However, one of our trio went to the newish parkrun and is now "completely hooked." She runs, marshalls, bar code scans etc. I've run quite a few now, but am not so committed. A case in point is yesterday's longish run, which some said was more enjoyable, and for one was her longish run for months.
Enjoy today's rest day, the walk and paddle

I believe parkruns are all measures accurately with a wheel. There are many reasons they don’t all measure on a GPS. We have to run under an underpass 4 times in my local. I did a very twisty trail one in the woods yesterday on Roosevelt Island and it measured 3.12 for me my other half was 3.09. Very small margins.

Last Saturday Mrs3M and I both ran Sandringham parkrun. I got 5.09km, she got 4.91! Go figure.... 😁 (Good job only one of us was doing the Dr K Cup, huh?)

You're right about Park Run measuring LL but it's the cornering etc which can make them less accurate... but then the same is true of road races I would think. Small margins can give that all important second or so for those hoping for PB's!
Everyone knows I don't do and never will do a Park Run, it just doesn't suit me socially, local routes or purpose but I know that it's enjoyed by so many and a terrific world wide thing. I suppose that for me, even though I'm currently on low miles, going to a location just to do 5k isn't good use of my time. My cousin who lives just a mile away from me has tried to drag me to one for years and she's done 300 now!
4.2 this chilly, damp, very autumnal morning.

At my Roosevelt Island parkrun I met a man who is a member of my daughters running club in the midlands and knows her and her children. I also met a lady who lives in the same town at my other daughter in NZ. It really brings people together.
Steve there would even be variances on a track 5k as not all runners could run the same distance if they’re not tight in the inside lane.

LL, you are absolutely right about track runners running more than the race distance, where they have to move out of the inside lane to overtake etc. I remember many years ago, Paula Radcliffe running a 10k in 30.01. She lapped the whole field except for Sonia O'sullivan, meaning that she run a portion of the race in the outer lanes.
Heavy rain early morning, but it stopped before we set off for our Monday run. I ran with 2 running friends, 8.65 miles in the forest. It was fairly mud free underfoot, but there was a fairly strong cold wind.
