Fat Boy Ran the New York Marathon this morning. Set off quite steady at 6.15 miling and passed through 10K in 39.09. Reached 10m mile in 63.15 and halfway in 1.23.29. Felt comfy at this point but at 19 miles began to tighten in both quads and reahed 20 miles in 2.10.30. Within a mile I totally cramped and was reduced to walking / jogging for the last five miles which were a nightmare! Crossed the finishing line in 3.10.32 and ended up in the medical tent. In an internet cafe in Times Square just now before heading off to a show.

A.C This is a hard marathon. It was hot and humid. The streets are made of concrete which kills your calves by the end of the race.

Despite all of that, couldn't recommend a better race.

Only good for a pb if it is your first time (like me)!

Foxy My first ever marathon, after over 5 months training the day arrived this was it my first ever marathon & my first ever race (unless you include the 2.5 mile Penkridge Fun run as a 10 or 11 year old.) i had set myself a series of goals - 1) finish 2) break 5 1/2 hours 3) break 5 hours (my major goal) 4) beat Paul Sutton's time at London of 4 hours 55 mins - I used to work with Paul at Safeway years ago)

i ran with lynda a gym instrustor friend of a friend from Northampton & had a great time - i was planning to do Paris on the coach home !!!

a life changing experience & I raised over £2000 for Breast cancer care.

dancing to YMCA in a pink vest in the gay part of Brooklyn led to a shout of

Musical Journey With the benefit of hindsight, I now realise that I should not have done the 4 mile friendship run the day before, nor should I have done all the walking I did after it. The race itself started off steadily, but soon after the half marathon point, I could feel my legs starting to seize up and really had to push myself hard to keep going. I ran/walked between miles 14 and 22 and then managed to put in a sprint finish over the last 3 miles, determined to break 5hrs which I just managed. Tremendous experience, great atmosphere, glad to finish!

jude Very hot. (25 degrees) Very hilly!

Ran/walked as pulled piriformis 2 weeks before race and had dislocated bone in foot with orthotic looking after it!

At mile 23 IT band 'went'. Hobbled home in floods of tears but was wonderful experience. Would be up for doing another one to see if I can get under 4.45 when fit. Maybe a flat, cooler one next time!
