Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

It's worse in relatively deprived areas as well, come to Haverhill, it's like muffintop heaven there and smoking is compulsory too.
There's no question about the increasing obesity of the nation. Saw a map of the US with the states coloured according the the incidence of obesity and between mid 90s and 2005 ish there's a dramatic difference which is only going to get worse.

Finders, I don't think anorexia nervosa IS becoming commoner, and it's certainly not more accepted in the real world - if anything, celebrity magazines and what the kids at my daughters' school call "wannarexia" mean that normal, healthy, slim young women are suspected of freakish non-eating practices.

"Size zero", or a UK size 4, isn't ridiculously skinny. I remember Mrs Beckham's 23-inch waist being held up as cause for concern - a couple of decades ago, the average waist size for a young woman was 22".

Our concept of what's "normal" has grown so that although extreme obesity may still evoke an "urgh!", nobody would look twice at someone with a BMI of 30 because it's become commonplace. And that wasn't always the case.

In general there's much more sitting on your arse recreational activity for adults and kids now than there was even 10 years ago. You should need a licence for a wii or gameboy or dslite. Limited to 2 hours a week whatever your age ;)
