There really is a lot of carp in RW, isn't there. "Enormous clod hopping shoes can help you to run twice as fast, new really scientific study shows." Right by a Nike ad, "Buy these enormous clod hopping shoes. They're yummy." Twonks.

I've only recently taken up running seriously, but I've been fairly consistently finishing in the top half in mountain bike endurance events with a BMI of 29.5
I reckon they should do away with all this MV40 and FV50 nonsense and just have weight divisions for cycling and running, like boxing.

My fat %, according to some electronic scaley things we've got, is 25-28%. I just ignore it, eat a Mars bar, and run as often and as fast as I can! :-)G

No way you are 25% fat Gster. Those scales are kak, last time I used them I was well into the 20's as well. More accurate to use calipers.

Are they just sh*te then Boab? I read somewhere that elites are 7-9% fat, athletic types 10 - 18%, "normal" 19-24% and over 25% is a total porker. And how did *that* make me feel!?

But if they're wrong then I'll tell the much better half; she *will* be pleased! :-)G

my scales tell me I'm about 13.5% fat. It creeps up if i put on weight. It reads as slightly less if my feet are wet :)

Agree with Boab, the scales are massively inaccurate, and vary quite a bit depending on your hydration. The best and most accessible way to measure it is calipers (assuming you don't have access to under water measuring equipment in a lab, or a DXA scan).

Fat percentages are different depending on gender too, I heard that 12-18% is athletic for women, but think it's a bit lower for men.

Just been reading back a bit. V'rap, for the 10 in 10, would you recommend putting a bit of weight on beforehand? From your comment, and from what I think (based on no science at all), I'd rather not have to carry extra weight around with me, but it has been suggested that I would need to.

Ah yes, Naomi. I was talking about fat % for blokes. Cos I am one. Sort of.

I got my numbers wrong. This one is from Wikipedia, American Council on Exercise:

Description Women Men

Essential fat 10–12% 2–4%

Athletes 14–20% 6–13%

Fitness 21–24% 14–17%

Acceptable 25–31% 18–26%

Overweight 32-41% 27-37%

Obese 42%+ 38%+

Still - 25-29% made me on the porkerly side! :-)G
