Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

We've got a crate for Jess but rarely use it now. She was more than happy to use it when we took her on holiday and often took herself there for a nap.

Such sweet pictures Sharkie
I've commented about a crate elsewhere D2, which I think you will probably have seen by now....
Co-incidentally I am just having a 'discussion' with J about Wanda and ours. We are organising a race tomorrow and are likely to be out of the house for longer than we'd like to leave her, so I've suggested taking the crate and putting it up in the pub garden where our race HQ is with a filled hoof/bone or something else attractive for her.

J does not agree with this approach... but I know that while we are trying to register, start and direct to alternative parking, up to 50 runners having a dog on a lead with us will not be terribly helpful.....

Also Wanda does need to practice her relaxed isolation (for the test next month) in a crate and while she won't exactly be isolated it's a start. Also the pub has two dogs of their own and it will be easier for all concerned if we are 'restraining' ours. Personally a crate in sight of us in the pub garden is more acceptable to me than leaving her in the boot of the car, potentially out of our sight in the car park......

FWIW I think you are right. What are J's objections?

Yes, we still use a crate for Jet. It's his safe space. However, his is a 'big dog' crate and he's a medium dog and there is a lot of space for him. He has a hard crate at home and a soft crate in the car or when travelling, staying is non-home places.

Wanda doesn't particularly 'like' being in the crate (although a hoof makes it far more attractive) and J is concerned that if runners turn up who have dogs with them she is likely to bark etc (and probably look like she is trying to get out of the crate in order to kill them!) and she would be less stressed in the car. It's not likely to be a particularly warm day tomorrow and she wouldn't need to be 'confined' for very long at a time so the boot of the car may do her no harm, we'll see. It could just be that the crate is a bulky thing to transport and a faff to put up and take down which is putting him off......

I think I still agree with you - it would be useful practice even though she's not isolated. But then Jess has only been left in the car for about three minutes!

Our house was too small for a Leah-sized crate so we had a baby gate across the kitchen doorway and she had her big cushion in there. She could see the front door and watch stuff going on.

I think a crate might be worth a try D2, and Baroness, I think you've got a good idea there.
