Arlo has been very growly at me today. His own fault for rolling in a load of seal blubber. So I had pull him off it, and then force him into the bath. Then while he was drying and cold, the fireworks started. He is generally OK with them, but some were really close and loud which spooked him. So not a fun evening for him.

Wanda goes into full on guarding mode when the fireworks start. She's not scared but all she wants to do is go out in the garden and bark at them until they go away. Luckily I had a butcher's bone in the fridge for just this eventuality and once she got stuck into that, all fireworks were ignored. Hopefully she didn't have it for long enough to suffer 'bone-y tummy' tomorrow.

I met Alfie and Lily, sibling cockerpoos, out with owner, Chris just after 11pm. Alfie was too frightened by the fireworks to wee, while Lily simply jumps a bit.

Monty was generally OK until the neighbours set off theirs. He didn’t like the close bangs. Fortunately they only had a few.

He wasn’t too happy going for a wee but was very chilled inside.

Albie was mostly ok and is much better with the further away bangs thankfully. Probably because we’ve had them every day since 24th October. We also had classic fm pet night on. He was scared and shaky with the close and loud bangs including some after we went to bed. It’s particularly the weeeeee bang ones he hates as some went off next to him last year and totally freaked him out.

Thankfully he was ok to go out for a wee and nothing close by went off.

We had bangs yesterday (mostly distant thankfully) almost constantly from 2:30pm onwards. I mean why on earth would you set them off when it is still light?!

There used to be an organised display at the village community centre every year but that stopped due to increased insurance costs. That was good as it was a defined time, and most villagers went to it rather than having their own fireworks. Now there are fireworks at random all evening for two or three nights which is much harder to manage with the dogs. Ollie is fine - laid back whatever mode, but Frankie gets protective of the property barking at them and did seem stressed last night. That of itself unsettles Ollie.

Bella went into guarding mode, especially for the ones she could see, but didn't seem too distressed. We just had to calm her down so the neighbours wouldn't be disturbed by the barking.

Charming individual in our neighborhood who said he enjoys fireworks night as it’s “payback for the other 52 weeks when owners let their dogs bark constantly and don’t pick up their mess”. Don’t think he understands it’s the dogs that suffer, not the minority of owners that annoy all of us

Lots of missing dogs round here, plus a tragic case where a man tried to rescue his dog from the sea when it bolted (pre the 5th) and both died

Yes Homer's blog is well worth a read even though it made the tears fall.

A warning to all dog owners: a good friend with an adorable cockapoo, Mabel, has been really put through the wringer this weekend. Mabel 'investigated' the mouldy contents of someone's food waste bin which had been knocked over, presumably by a fox and not fully cleared up a few days earlier. There's a mould that food caddy bins can be particularly good breeding grounds for. Mabel spent the weekend in a critical condition at the vets but thankfully because she was treated very quickly, she's now home and slowly recovering.
I've previously heard of a spaniel who died from ingesting mouldy food. Please make sure your bins are washed out regularly and any food spilled at the kerbside is cleared up!!
