We’ve found a short walk in the late evening (5-10 mins) gives Monty a chance to have a good sniff around. It’s more mentally stimulating than physical. Obviously he’s a lot younger than Biscuit and possibly less bouncy generally.

Training is often more stimulating/tiring than play I think. Maybe some scent work or something.

The bouncing around at that time could be a sign of over tiredness in which case I would crate and encourage a snooze.

I was going to say the same as SJA, it is likely to be overtiredness. Lola usually has about half an hour where she is a proper pia, doing everything she knows she's not supposed to do. Then she crashes out.

Another option to crating is to use tethering, which basically is putting a lead on them and in our case it is round the leg of the couch, we have her bed within reach and she will lie down. The first few times she did complain, loudly, but then settled down. Sometimes give her something good to chew which also helps her to settle.

We use a timeout in the crate with Bella, also probably due to overtiredness. Only 2 minutes and with my phone alarm as the signal that it's over. For now, we have to put her in there, but hoping to train her to go in on command eventually.

She can be a right terror and so far comes out a changed dog. Weird.

Biscuit isn't crate trained, but will try the lead, thanks all :)

Arlo can go a bit mad on the evenings (scratching at the carpet, destroying toys, just lots of energy). One of the things I've noticed though is it happens more when we are both downstairs (usually half 7/8 onwards). But, if I go upstairs, even for just 5 minutes, he jumps up onto the sofa and settles down next to my partner. Then if I come back down, he is fine and settled.

Primarily me, because I do more of the playing and wrestling with him so he probably gets a bit excited when I'm around.

Damp dog needs a B-A-T-H. I have to say it like that because if they hear the B word I have to play hunt the dog for an hour before wrestling them in to the tub.

Biscuit's like that. You have to ambush him with melted cheese on a lick mat one end, and someone to grab him at the other end.

Bella has got better (after the week where she had a bath almost every day), we don't even bother with the peanut butter now.
