Hope Ernie's feeling better soon. Some lovely puppy pics
To add to the collection we met sister in law's 9 week old dachshund/poodle cross yesterday. Here's Reggie:

What beautiful pups.
Arlo picked up a children's lollipop stick, the long, thin white ones. Despite the darkness, I realised he had gone for something and had my hand straight in his mouth, he tried to swallow it down in one.

The trouble with grabbing stuff out of mouths (and trust me, I've done it myself so not a criticism) is that A. You risk losing a finger and B. It instantly adds value to the item making them much more likely to just swallow it. My parents whippet ended up having a operation to remove a corn cob that got lodged in his throat because he swallowed as soon as a grab was made to get it off him!
I try to make my go to be starting throw biscuits or toys around and going "what's this! What's this!" Like a lunatic. Tends to devalue the item in gob and they'll often spit it out to come and see what I'm so excited about. If that doesn't work then high value swaps can work, better if you do lots of practice and build up slowly from lower value items. Oscar did once carry a huge dead rabbit all the way home from a walk until we could produce something high value enough for him to swap when we got home (his food bowl with a whole packet of sausages in was the price of the rabbit!). Small bit of rubbish are harder to deal with than large dead things as with large dead things as ling as you keep them moving they'll just carry it. Small bits of rubbish can be swallowed on the go. Which is where practicing swaps comes in, or a solid leave it, or work to just devalue rubbish items generally so that they don't even look at them. Get it right and you end up with a dog that either can't be bothered to pick boring rubbish up anyway or a dog that brings anything he finds straight to you for a swap!

Bella picked up a big chunk of glass this morning out of nowhere. I hate to think what would have happened if she'd swallowed it.
Definitely tricky getting her to give stuff back once she's set her sights on it.

Ralph used to carry whole rabbits home frequently arguing about it never ended well - getting home and swapping for something else was the best option
“What’s this?” in an over the top excited voice was me too - a tennis ball was better than food.

All the above posts make me think I'm not taking Wanda's muzzle off her anytime soon even if it is a lazy option on my part.
Hope Ernie is soon feeling better - that is exactly the sort of thing Wanda would do too.

He’s currently rampaging with a hat trying to get me to play. I think he’ll be fine.

It must be Spring! Flossie chose to have her post-dinner lie down outside looking in, instead of inside looking out, just now
