Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Hope he’s ok Helegant!

Albie caught a squirrel on today’s walk in the woods :-O
It was small and slow so may have been young and already injured. By some miracle I caught Albie, he dropped the squirrel, then it ran up my leg, and I shrieked 😆
Now we can add “squirrel tree” to “bird food ditch”, “deer glade” and the various “cat gardens” that he will now remember and check every time 🙄

The squirrel escaped but didn’t seem in great condition.

I know squirrels are not well-loved, but I hope it was OK.

Jet seems fine today and back to his normal good mood. No idea what had sent him into red-eye last night...

Glad to hear Jet is OK. I can't even begin to imagine the horrific situation if Wanda caught a squirrel - fortunately being muzzled most of the time prevents such a thing happening.

I don’t think Albie knew what to do once he’d caught it. He had it by the tail for a few seconds. Hopefully it was ok. It was very slow getting up the tree which was how he caught it.

I’m going to have to keep an eye on him!

Rory once 'caught' a pigeon that had already been seriously injured by something else. It tried to take off from the ground and literally fell into his mouth. He had absolutely no idea what to do with it.

Unfortunately Wanda is hard-wired to know exactly what to do with anything she catches and it's not pleasant!

Ralph knew exactly what do do with any creature within catching distance. I was perpetually worried he would come across an old and slow cat

Yes that is a worry. I’m hoping he doesn’t get more experience and stays as clueless as I can keep him! He’s mostly on a long lead in the park. I only let him off in the woods with no other dogs around.

We had hedgehogs in the garden and he just barked at them (he was a bit scared). With cats he pulls desperately towards but if they turn towards him he barks and retreats. He doesn’t generally chase birds, just looks interested - sometimes runs after them. He does pull towards squirrels. It is a bit worrying he’s had this experience even if he was as surprised as the rest of us.

My parents old dog caught a squirrel once but to my knowledge didn’t get anything else so I’m hoping he is similar (she was a whippet cross).
