We have had another couple visiting and enjoyed a drink in the garden. I brought out a plate of six cupcakes of which two got eaten and the paper cases left on the table. We showed them the rest of the garden, which goes round a corner out of sight of the table - on our return almost no time at all later we found an empty plate on the table, no cup cakes, no paper cases and Wanda who looked pleased with herself and a bit queasy at the same time. Each cake (according to the box they came in) is just over 200 calories so that's 800 calories ingested in the space of about a minute. We had a trip to the emergency vet almost exactly a year ago after a similar incident involving an Easter egg - hopefully we won't be doing the same again........... she is a bad dog.......

Oh dear Wanda!
I have workmen coming this week to tile the utility room/downstairs loo and finish a couple of bits in the kitchen (backsplash). I have no idea how Albie will cope - a little bit nervous. I’m at work weds and fri and working from home Thursday. My friend is coming round to pup sit as Albie will want the workmen to pay attention to him 😮😬 and I’ve booked the dog walker to take him out in the afternoons.
Any tips? It’s all open plan downstairs (though the utility room is behind a door). He gets super excited when he hears people in the house. I’m hoping we can get him to chill...

oh silly Wanda!
Hector stole a pickled cucumber from my husband's plate today!
Pen -maybe put him on the lead and let him see the workmen when they come in then take him to a different room and let them get on with it? I find once Hector has seen who is in the house he just ignores the noise they make as he knows it isn't an intruder

Albie has done really well today.
He greeted the men on lead and I’ve put up some barriers which could be moved as needed. He’s mostly been able to ignore the sounds (even though the door was open into the utility (necessary for tiling)) occasionally whining and wanting attention but able to disengage. He’s slept a couple of times in his pen and has snoozed on the floor/one of his beds.
Much better than expected.
And the men hope to finish tomorrow too so that’s massively better than I expected.
It’s really good learning for him that not all people are there for him!

That sounds really positive Pen - well done Albie.
It was our first session back at dog training today in several months - I can't actually remember if we managed to get a class in during December or not but it's certainly been a while. I do try to engage Wanda in some of the things we do at training when out on walks but a whole hour of concentrating and being in a paddock with 4 other dogs was very tiring for her today. I had to cut each exercise short and by the end of the class I just got her to do stays on her mat because she really wasn't interested in doing any of the things she was meant to be doing. Having said that she was very good for the first half of the class and she has slept all afternoon since we got back!
