The thunder woke me up about 3.00 I think - Ralph did the "whatever" one eye open head-lift and went back to sleep.

OH is planning to retire in October - and wants another dog! He was so distraught over the loss of Leah, our GSD, that I thought he would never have another. Now it seems the plan is to get two dogs. An older rescue first and then another GSD puppy which will have a big brother or sister to help it grow up. Thoughts about this idea are welcome.
Also, feeding. Tempted by raw food especially for GSDs but also by the convenience of a big sack of dry food. Again, any thoughts and discussion would be greatly appreciated.

Older rescue then puppy is a great idea as long as you can iron out any issues with rescue first or the puppy will learn things you dont want! Frankly who wouldnt want a GSD puppy!
I'm not a fan or raw food as I know too much about the contaminates, campylobacter being one in particular, however I know Sharkie is a fan so she will have more to say i'm sure.
I'm pleased to hear he is ready for another, they never replace the lost ones but that empty space in his heart needs filling asap. I'm happy for you

We’ve said for five years that when Tuss goes we won’t have another dog. I don’t think either of us for a second believe it. Good luck

Exciting times Cyclops I go for convenience with feeding I'm afraid, plus our dog came from a rescue and we were given a starter pack of the food she was used to and just carried on feeding to her routine on more or less the same thing.

It seems Ralph can count.
Every evening, after he's had his dinner, eldest throws a handful of dog biscuits around the floor for Ralph to find and eat -(this is habit started in the last 6 months or so)
if there are fewer than 5 biscuits to be found, he refuses to eat them and nudges eldest until he hands out a couple more. If there are at least 6, he will happily go around and hoover them up.

Ha, that reminds me of something I'd forgotten about Daisy, our last Lab - she could count up to three, because we used to do something very similar for her No point in trying to get away with two biscuits hidden somewhere in the living room while she stayed in the kitchen, waiting for the 'Find it!' command. It *had* to be three
