Excellent! I know this is a silly thing to say, because, *obviously*, but isn't she grown up now!

We went out for lunch today and took the dog with us. Two people, separately, called him 'puppy'. He's 7, but seemed quite happy with the compliment

I know, LD. She doesn’t look like a puppy at all but of course she still acts like one!

Hmmm. My brown lab retained a puppy mentality for her whole life! You won’t see one working as a guide dog . Wouldn’t have wanted her any other way though .

I didn't realise the colour made a difference. Although we were warned not to get a solid colour cocker spaniel, and especially not black

When we first got a dog we were told black Labs were cleverer than yellows. I can say from having owned three blacks, that is a load of nonsense

I gather there is a genetic issue with merle collies, but otherwise I wonder whether most of the rest is folklore.

There is something about colour with Brittanys - something like there aren't separate show and working types and people who show want to breed out black and people who have working lines don't care about colour.
Rory (ginger roan) is of course mad as a box of frogs, but I think that's normal for Brittanys of whatever colour.

Ernie is only half black cocker and utterly bonkers. He is the happiest dog though and always looks happy (except when being ignored when he thinks it’s treat o’clock).
